Korea’s leading fitness company, KD Healthcare Co., Ltd., which operates SpoAny, has announced that it is preparing to launch a new and creative fitness model.

The new type, ‘SpoAny Smart,’ is an innovative business model envisioned by Chairman Kim Kyung-deok of KD Healthcare over many years. It will initially be operated as a laboratory (LAB) model rather than a formal brand type, with plans for expansion into a full brand model based on customer feedback. The first project of the SpoAny Lab, born out of the question of what constitutes the best fitness service for customers, is the launch of the SpoAny Smart brand. SpoAny Lab will continuously pursue new projects through various tests.

Chairman Kim shared that he had long questioned whether existing fitness centers were truly meeting customers’ needs.

“Are current fitness centers providing services that customers genuinely require? Why do fitness centers insist on long-term payment plans? Many customers pay for days they don’t attend, so why should they pay for days they don’t use the facilities? Could this issue be discouraging potential customers from starting their fitness journey?”

After much consideration, he decided to create and test an innovative fitness center model that is advantageous from the customer’s perspective. This creative thought process led to the launch of ‘SpoAny Smart.’

The main concept of SpoAny Smart is a ‘Pay per use (PPU)’ model gym. Introducing a pay-per-use model to the fitness industry is a world-first attempt. Members can use SpoAny Smart freely for up to one hour per day with a basic monthly subscription fee of 20,000 KRW. For additional time beyond one hour, users can register their credit card in advance, and an automatic charge of approximately 1,000 KRW per 30 minutes will be applied upon exit.

Chairman Kim stated, “SpoAny Smart is the first fitness center model to apply the PPU (pay per use) business model, and while it will operate in a lab format initially to gauge customer responses, the goal is to expand based on positive feedback. We hope that SpoAny Smart will bring us closer to our customers and contribute to a more reasonable fitness usage culture.”

While SpoAny memberships allow access to all locations, SpoAny Smart will not be compatible with other types of SpoAny centers during its lab phase. However, existing SpoAny members can access SpoAny Smart at a 50% discounted rate.

The first location of the innovative ‘SpoAny Smart’ model in Jangandong is set to open in June.

Free trial applications can be submitted through the official SpoAny website, and there will be promotional events with gifts for officially registered members.
